Included in this lesson:
Psalm 39:1 Bible Verse Coloring Sheet – NIV

Children will find joy in coloring a picture of a child and a bulldog, paired with important words that highlight things we should be cautious about when using our tongues, such as bullying, whining, saying hurtful things, and lying. As they engage in this creative activity, it’s essential to have an open conversation about bullying and how it can deeply affect others. By nurturing a sense of empathy and understanding, we can guide our children to recognize the impact of their words and inspire them to choose kindness and support instead.
Bulldog Treat Bag Craft with Bible Verse – NIV

Encourage your students to color labels adorned with the powerful Bible verse from James 3:7-8. Once they’ve personalized their labels, help them glue them onto paper lunch bags, transforming them into one-of-a-kind treat bags. Next, fill each bag with delicious animal crackers or cookies—special treats to enjoy at home. Share with the students that every time they reach for a cookie, they should recite the verse on the front of their bag. This simple act will serve as a meaningful reminder to control their words and tame their tongues. It’s a wonderful way to blend fun and faith, reinforcing important values in their daily lives!
“Don’t Let Your Tongue Bully You Around!” Coloring Sheet

Children will engage in coloring a lively picture of a bulldog with its tongue sticking out, which features the Watchdog Promise at the bottom of the sheet. While they work on this creative task, take the opportunity to discuss the effects of bullying and how words can impact others in both positive and negative ways. After they finish coloring, encourage your students to read the Watchdog Promise together and reflect on its meaning, fostering a constructive dialogue about kindness and support.
Interactive Bible Lesson
In this lesson, we explore the powerful analogy between taming animals and mastering our speech. As highlighted in James 3, humanity has been remarkably successful in taming countless animals, yet we often find ourselves at a loss when it comes to controlling our own tongues. The potential dangers of an untamed tongue can be profound; just as the crowd made a grave choice by shouting for “Barabbas” over Jesus, our words can lead to significant consequences. It is essential for children to understand the weight of their words, as even the smallest remarks can inflict deep emotional wounds on others. Let us be mindful and deliberate with our speech, recognizing its incredible power to heal or harm.
Tame the Beast Watchdog Promise Review Game

Children can review the Watchdog Promise through a fun and fast-paced game. In this activity, they pass around stuffed animals or bookmarks while taking turns saying one word of the promise. The next child in line must repeat the word and pass the bookmark to the next child until the entire promise has returned to the first child. At the end of the game, you can provide each child with a bookmark that has the Bible verse printed on it, or for older children, you can give them a blank bookmark to write the verse themselves. The bookmarks are available in both color and black & white patterns.
3D Bulldog Craft and Bible Verse Activity

Children can color a bulldog pattern, cut it out, and fold it to create a 3D stand-up dog. For older children, this activity becomes even more meaningful as they write the memory verse on the inside of the pattern. By taking their creation home and displaying it in a prominent spot, they’ll have a daily reminder to reflect on the verse and deepen their understanding. This is not just a craft—it’s a wonderful opportunity to blend creativity with spiritual growth!
“Tame the Animal” Game
Children help “tame” the stuffed animals by answering questions from the Bible lesson correctly.
Songs
Younger children will find great joy in singing songs that are set to the melodies of well-known children’s favorites. For instance, they can enthusiastically chant the Watchdog Motto to the familiar tune of “The Old Gray Mare,” which lends a playful rhythm to their singing. Additionally, they sing songs crafted to the catchy melodies of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,”. These familiar tunes not only captivate their attention but also foster a love for singing and movement.
